Dear Baseball Santa,
Here are my wishes:
That Randy Johnson would retire. He made his major league debut a week before I was born...in 1988. At the ripe young age of 25. I am 21. Do the math. He is 46. Retire...and take John Smoltz with you. Please.
Off-season moves not involving the AL East...aka the Blue Jays, Red Sox and Yankees.
A salary cap. Something has to be done to stop the Yankees payroll from eclipsing the GDP of the continent of Africa.
A reversal of the Atlanta Braves off-season to date. Troy Glaus as a first baseman, Billy Wagner for $7 million and Javier Vazquez to the Yankees for...Melky Cabrera--seriously Frank Wren, what were you thinking? What happened to wanting a slugging outfielder? Looks like Chipper Jones will be pitched around again this year.
An explanation of why the Phillies traded Cliff Lee. I understand Roy Halladay is phenomenal and a huge commodity this off-season, but giving up Kyle Drabek and Lee to get him seems a big steep.
Jason Bay re-signing with the Red Sox. Come on, he looked great in the Boston uniform and fit in beautifully in the historic Fenway Park.
Buster Posey and Matt Weiters...oh the future of the catching position is so bright. Joe Mauer and Brian McCann will be around for years, and throw in those two and it is looking good for the men in masks.
I hope you can make this all come true,
Mike
